Frequently Asked Questions

What if family or friends ask what I'm getting out treatment?

It is entirely up to you to decide what, if anything, to tell family and friends. Part of the reason you are working on your goals with a professional therapist is because some things are better kept private and not worked on with or discussed with family and friends. At other times you may wish to get a family member's of friend's reaction to you and what you feel you are getting from treatment.

Although what you say in therapy is confidential, you do not need to hold what your therapist says as confidential unless you wish to. You can feel free to "check out" statements made, treatment approaches taken, and the degree of progress you do or don't feel you are making with others. That is your right, at the same time it is your right to keep the content of therapy, or even the fact that you are in therapy confidential.
